Our Last Week in Nursery

Posted by EYFS | Posted in General News | Posted on 26-07-2015

This week we have read a variety of stories based around vehicles that fly, and of course we just couldn’t end our last week in nursery without watching Auntie Mabel & Pippin ‘Come Outside – Geese’. The children have been talking about going on holidays and have been discussing where they have been, and which form of transport was used to take them there.

Here you can see us enjoying our last few sessions of freeflow play.

We had some goodbyes to say this week. We said a sad farewell to our good friend and colleague Mrs Potts who retired on Friday. She will be sorely missed by everyone here, and we all wish her a very happy retirement. Keep in touch Mrs Potts.

We also had to say goodbye to Donald the duck. On his last day in nursery we took Donald outside for the first time. The children sat in a circle and enjoyed watching him run around in the fresh air. The children have loved having Donald as a member of nursery and enjoyed seeing him grow bigger and more confident each day. We all gave him one last stroke and made him a goodbye card. A great BIG thank you goes to Harrisson and his family for providing the duck & quail eggs and for bringing some of their farm animals to visit us in nursery. They provided the children with lots of wonderful learning opportunities. THANK YOU! GOODBYE DONALD. WE LOVE YOU AND YOU WILL BE MISSED! KEEP IN TOUCH!

image image

As you can see, it wasn’t just the children who fell in love with Donald. Whenever anyone came to see him they just couldn’t resist having a little cuddle!

In nursery we love a good party! A number of children’s 4th birthdays are in the summer holidays, as is Miss Jones’ birthday, so why not end our last day in nursery with a birthday party? We played lots of games and enjoyed dancing to the music. Congratulations to Miss Jones & Miss Coggan on their first year at Russell Scott – we hope they have enjoyed their year as much as we have enjoyed working with them.

The nursery staff would like to say thank you parents/carers and children for all the lovely cards and gifts we received. We have had a really enjoyable year with your wonderful children and have enjoyed getting to know them. Enjoy the summer holidays, see you in September!

A Very Special Assembly

2

Posted by EYFS | Posted in General News | Posted on 23-07-2015

Today we had a very special assembly for Mrs Potts and Mrs Meopham, who are both retiring this summer. They had to complete six challenges in front of the whole school before we said yes to their retirement!!!
Rhythm and Rhyme
Educate Us
Teacher and Teacher
ICT for Oldies
Rhythm and Rhyme part 2
Entertain us

During “ICT for Oldies” the teachers had to take photographs and make a collage to show on the big screen. It was a timed challenge so they had to be very fast!

image

For “Entertain us” we made our own episode of “Come Outside” with Mrs Meopham as Auntie Mabel and Mrs Potts as Pippin. You can watch it here!

image

Of course to end our assembly we presented Mrs Potts and Mrs Meopham with their Golden Owl badges and certificates. Well done ladies – you passed all of our challenges and are officially allowed to retire tomorrow!

Donald Duck is getting bigger and bigger everyday and is very noisy and daring!
Today the children had the opportunity to stroke Donald and as you can see by their big smiles they really enjoyed stroking him, watching him waddle and swim around.

We invited our student, Miss Kelly to our teddy bears’ picnic so we could say a proper goodbye to her. We all made her a card and presented her with gifts of chocolates as a big thank you for all her help throughout her time in nursery. Thank you Miss Kelly for the gingerbread men you brought in for all the children, which were handed out at the end of the session. We all wish Miss Kelly every success with her future career. Keep in touch and come back and see us soon!

We had a great time at our teddy bears’ picnic. The children walked quietly and sensibly through school with their teddies and into the junior playground. We had lots and lots to eat, then danced and sang our hearts out to the music with our teddies. Thank you to everybody for their generous contributions towards our picnic.
